Some free days I canapos;t seem to figure out where to begin; is it the curse of too many obligations, or the blessing of too many opportunities-darn hard to tell the difference sometimes. This is such a day. I rolled over when the alarm went off at 4 A.M. And shut it off. Beth and the dog got up and I went back to sleep, not reawakening until 10:45. After firing up the computer and putting on coffee, Iapos;m faced with the invisible ball of string. Do I get stuff ready to mail and head to the post office? Do I clear the remaining wood off the back lawn? Do I start working on the book? Do I vacuum first? Do I start catching up on sweepstakes entries? The list of possibilities is ever-expanding. Such a dilemma is a blessing in a way as it wards against boredom and self-pity. Iapos;m sure many of the good folks down the street at the Sanfield Rehab Center would trade places in a heartbeat.
Yesterday did see some progress. I wrote three left wing haikus for a contest on the People For The American Way website, something I learned about from one of my sweeps newsletters and which caused a brief flurry of snippiness. I avoided the temptation to wade in with my opinion, choosing to enter instead. Iapos;ve seen similar factionalism wreak havoc on one of the listsI manage. Politics should either be completely absent or wide open. After 8 years of sitting back and letting the BushNazi Christian lunatics crow while hearing the giant sucking sound growing in the background, Iapos;m locked and loaded. Iapos;d love to see a repeat of what happened when Barry Goldwater (who I came to admire later) ran and the publicans lost their backside. Thereapos;s something vaguely obscene about a 900+ point gain on Wall Street, even if it did mean I gained back a few $$. I did open up the other day and tell one lady at the library that hell would freeze over before Iapos;d vote for a republican. She was a bit dismayed, but we agreed neither of ouropinions would affect the operation of the library.
Late yesterday, I backed down the lawn and loaded my Chevy to the max with poplar and apple wood before trying my new ultralight bow. Dang With my bum shoulder, I canapos;t draw it when set at 80 LBS pull, so I gave up temporarily and took my old 65 pound full size and headed for Solon. My father in law was happy to get the wood and he unloaded while I went to my stand in back of his place. In years past, it has been a gimmee for sighting deer as it is above Fall Brook in an old abandoned apple orchard. Unfortunately, my suspicion about the herd being a lot smaller that DIFW claims it to be was reinforced. Thousands of apples littered the ground with nary a one showing signs of being nibbled upon. I sat for 2 hours and aside from the frequent honking of the resident Canada Goose flock and one swaggering chipmunk, my visit was uneventful. At least I got out and it felt good to be silent in the forest once again. I may venture out back of the house later this afternoon, should the urge strike me.
